It is such a basic understanding of Christianity one would not think that it would need to be a part of our discussion. Jesus Christ is a name that would have a level of familiarity among those who believe as well as those who do not. It is not the name recognition that determines faith but what we believe about Jesus. That is what the rest of the Apostle’s Creed addresses. Just to believe that he walked the earth around 2000 years and was a great teacher does not go nearly far enough.
The first thing that tells us something that we need to believe about Jesus is that He is God’s only begotten son. He is begotten in that He comes directly from the Father in the form of His Son. There is more to the story. He is the only begotten Son of the Father. There is none other that has this relationship to God the Father. I am not trying to be over exclusive about Christianity as to how the world will be judged, but there is no one other than Jesus Christ the Son of God in whom we can call Lord. I will continue with the idea of “Lord” in the next blog.

For this purpose I would like to use the Apostle’s Creed. The most basic belief of our Faith is the first seven words, “I believe in God the Father Almighty.” One of the greatest changes in the last several decades of our nation is the different gods we might hear mentioned if the question was asked, “do you believe in God?” Which god would be the answer given by many. Today there are many gods on our religious scene. The Christian answers the question with authority, “God the Father Almighty.” This is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This the father of Jesus Christ. Some say it doesn’t matter in who or what we believe as long as we are sincere. They say it is our sincerity that really matters. Hear this, If one is desiring to examine the truth of Christianity it begins with a faith in God the Father Almighty. It is from this foundation that we begin. This is the Christian God.

There are voices of extremism in politics, economics, and religion. My purpose is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as written in the Holy Scriptures. I believe that the christianity that is revealed as written in the ancient creeds such as the Apostle’s Creed are right on target. They spoke to people’s hearts 2000 years ago, 1000 years ago, and today. I will be blogging on many of these great teachings of the church from the middle. That does not mean a weak comprimising position, but one that is solidly based on the truth.
